One of (the many possible) awesome Father’s Days Gifts from Makershed.com.
My co-workers and I have been kicking around ideas to highlight the best Father’s Day gifts, and, frankly, I think I beat everybody to the punch.
After being tortured watching the engineering team working out the build for the cover story of issue 30 Vol 30, I was finally pushed over the edge watching Breck Baldwin fly his DIY RC delta wing “flying towel” at Maker Faire
I needed to have one.
I found excuses to visit the warehouse on a daily basis as inventory was making its way back from Maker Faire. I became the proud owner of the first kit to make it off the back of the truck…
The kit was a perfect for a family build. Compelling for kids and adults alike. Achievable within our abbreviated attention span. And really fun to fly (or crash time and time again).
Few footnotes: 1) you WILL crash! – but the plane is remarkable tolerant of high speed impacts, 2) get friendly with your local RC hobby store or on-line retailer – I’m 2 servos, prop adaptor and a battery later, 3) any excuse to break out the soldering iron is fun for all – you will need a basic tool set (soldering iron, helping hands, diagonal cutters, utility knife, drill, etc), 4) I am finally appreciating the neighbor’s interest in politics – Ron Paul should appreciate the added exposure from the repurposed coroplast that is the foundation of our soon-to-be-launched airframe #2.
Don’t hesitate – Dad and family will enjoy alike. http://www.makershed.com/Flying_Wing_Kit_p/msfw1.htm
The bad news? Now I can’t expect any more Father’s Day gifts…
