Our Maker friend Rick was in town with his air-powered rocket so much aerodynamic fun was had by all:

Due to popular request, Breck gave a demo on El Wire for night flying at the end of class:

Publication Party and Studio Revamp

April 29, 2012

We had a party to celebrate our cover on Make Magazine Volume 30.

We also took the occasion to revamp the studio to make it easier to have build sessions. Check out the party pix:

Kids in the new studio

The new space with 4 tables for building. All white no less.

I taught the first kid to show up how to build a glider out of blue foam and change and forgot about it. He went and taught all the other kids how to do it and they varied the shapes a bunch. Really cool phenomenon to see knowledge pass along like that.

Danny and Gerbo having a chat

Danny from Beam Camp and our favorite artist Gerbo who does wonderful sculpture.

Philip, Michael and Doug at the party.

Philip (center) is a really good fine arts printer who owns Skink Ink. He is a very early collaborator with Brooklyn Aerodrome and creator of the super cool skins we presented the Secretary of the Navy with a while back. Michael is a long time Burning Man buddy and Doug is a friend from graduate school.

Brooklyn Aerodrome at Maker Faire in Westport Connecticut, April 28 2012

April 29, 2012

Karen and Breck headed up to the Maker Faire in Westport for a very fun day of flying and talking to people. Some pictures below:

Nice spot to spend a spring day eh?

Here is Breck delivering the “spiel” after a demo flight.

I did most of my flying over the parking lot. Here is a classic bank and yank turn. It was fairly blustery so landings were a challenge.

I generally tried to hand catch the plane since I didn’t want to land on asphalt. With the turbulence it was a challenge.
