Towel Recovery 2009: Floatzilla’s first mission

October 7, 2009

Hello, Splinter here. I’m at a secret location running a salvage operation to recover my original towel. It was lost at the end of 2008. I had broken one of the original plastic motor mounts. While in the field, I attempted to create a metal motor mount. I used some rather flimsy material and flew the plane around some trees and over a pond. The plane lost control and it landed on the thin ice.

Amelia reminded me that our ER visit deductible was about the same cost as a new towel and it was left alone on the ice. Almost to be forgotten.

Some time in the summer, I flew my newer deck and towel over the same pond and low and behold I spotted, in the recon photos, what looked to be the towel, now submerged under water.

Which brings us to today. The first operation of Floatzilla (aka Frank) the Brooklyn Aerodrome’s inflatable rescue vehicle. A gift from the Triple H foundation, here are a few snaps from today’s efforts.

Inclement weather forced the operation to be called off before finding and rescuing the towel. More tomorrow.
